James's Story

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. All year long The Arc Gloucester works diligently to provide employment options to our served individuals such as our pre-vocational training and supported employment programs.

Supported Employment is designed to help individuals obtain and maintain a job in the general workforce. James Carver is one of our individuals involved with this program. With the help of his job coach, Kate Ryan, James is active in the workforce and loves his job!

James currently works as a cart pusher at BJ's Warehouse. Back in May, James was eager to get back into the workforce after taking some time off. With the help of his job coach, he completed an online application, practiced for his interview and went to a hiring event. James was hired immediately!

James works four days a week and loves to learn new skills and talking with the people he meets at work. He loves talking to Kate about any hiring events BJ’s is hosting and always feels comfortable reaching out with any questions or concerns.

The freedom to make his own money and the pride he feels when his supervisor tells him he’s doing a great job always leaves him in a good mood! Even James’ mom, Nora told us she’s thrilled he has a job, he wants to work, and he feels better about himself when he’s working!
